Are your Lone Workers safe?

Mental Health Matters were fined £30,000 plus an extra £20,000 towards the cost of prosecution in February 2010. They admitted a breach of health and safety laws in sending trainee Ashleigh Ewing to her killer's flat on her own.

Such a tragic situation should be a wake up call to all in management.

All companies have a legal duty of care to staff working by themselves, many of whom can be described as a Lone Worker.  See our page on Duty of Care Corporate Manslaughter.

The HSE estimate the average cost of a staff member off sick because of violence at work costs between £13,000 and £17,000.

Your firm can drastically reduce the risk of this:

  • Analyse your Lone Worker Work Processes
  • Refresh your risk assessments
  • Develop new more appropriate Lone Worker Processes
  • Train your employees how to handle difficult situations
  • Invest in useful Lone Worker Personal Safety Technology - and train your staff how to use it under pressure

We can help with all of these, to help prevent nasty incidents like this happening and ensure your staff are where they should be - confident, safe - and able to apply themselves to your business.
