Duty of Care/H & Safety

Bookmark and Share

All organisations have a legal Duty of Care for staff.  It is a huge responsibility for any business, third sector organisation or public sector service provider.  We work with Chartered Health and Safety Practitioners to ensure that you stay the right side of your duty of care responsibilities and most importantly ensure the personal safety and well-being of your staff.

The HSE estimates that the average cost of one staff member off work sick because of violence at work is between £13,000 and £17,000.  The 2010 Mind Matters judgement was considerably more after the tragic death of Ashleigh Ewing.

Employers have a legal duty of care to protect their employees, but Directors can also be held accountable under the new Corporate Manslaughter Act 2007 which came into effect April 2008.

Ask us to provide a professional risk assessment or develop an appropriate policy to help ensure the safety of your staff.

Start by asking yourself the following questions:

  1. Are your staff ever threatened at work?
  2. Are they ever insulted, intimidated or threatened in the course of their employment?
  3. Are they vulnerable on visits to customers?
  4. Are they expected to remain calm in very stressful environments?
  5. Are they forbidden to strike out in self defence?  We also teach protection and restraint techniques.
  6. Give your staff great confidence and make them more effective at work.  By having them trained in simple conflict management and self defence techniques you build skills for life which can keep them safe and your most important assets protected.
  7. Why not show how much you value your employees' safety - and your investment - by giving them practical confidence building skills to avoid the worst happening.
  8. You will also be looking after their well-being outside of work too. Now that's a smart and considerate employer.
  9. Are any of your clients potentially dangerous?
  10. Lone Workers don't always fit a traditional description.  Many of your staff might benefit from our Lone Worker Personal Safety training.  Call us to find out more about our theory/analysis and practical courses.
