Duty of Care Corporate Manslaughter

The HSE estimates that the average cost of one staff member off work sick because of violence at work is between £13,000 and £17,000.

Employers have a legal duty of care to protect their employees, but Directors can also be held accountable under the new Corporate Manslaughter Act 2007 which came into effect April 2008.

  1. Are your staff ever threatened at work?
  2. Are they ever insulted, intimidated or threatened in the course of their employment?
  3. Are they vulnerable on visits to customers?
  4. Are they expected to remain calm in very stressful environments?
  5. Are they forbidden to strike out in self defence?  We also teach protection and restraint techniques.
